Things to Do in San Siro Milan
Stadium tours, spa days, horse racing, parks, and more — there's plenty to discover in this vibrant district.
San Siro might not be on every "top things to do in Milan" list — and that's exactly what makes it special. Beyond the world-famous stadium, this western Milan neighborhood is packed with activities that most visitors never discover. Here's what to fill your days with.
🏟️ Stadio San Siro Museum & Tour
Even if you're not attending a match, the San Siro Stadium Museum and Tour is a must. You'll explore the players' tunnel, walk pitch-side, visit the dressing rooms, and learn the history of both AC Milan and Inter through an impressive collection of trophies and memorabilia. The tour runs daily (except on match days) and takes about 90 minutes. Book tickets online for €20-25 to skip the queue. From our apartments, it's a 10-minute walk to the stadium entrance.
🐎 Ippodromo SNAI San Siro
Milan's historic horse racing track is a stunning venue that dates back to 1920. The Ippodromo hosts flat racing from March to November, with trotting events at the nearby Ippodromo del Trotto. Even if you're not a racing enthusiast, the atmosphere on race days is wonderful — dress up a bit, place a small bet, and enjoy an afternoon that feels like a scene from an Italian film. The Ippodromo also hosts the I-Days music festival and other major events throughout the year. It's just a 5-minute walk from our apartments.
🧖 Terme Milano (ex De Montel)
One of the best-kept secrets in western Milan, Terme Milano is a modern thermal spa complex built on the site of the historic Bagni De Montel. Opened in its current form in recent years, it offers thermal pools, saunas, steam rooms, and a range of treatments. It's the perfect way to recover after a long day of sightseeing — or to spend a lazy afternoon. Located in the San Siro area, it's walkable from the neighborhood and easily reached by bus.
🛍️ CityLife Shopping District
Just one metro stop from San Siro Ippodromo (or a 15-minute walk), CityLife is Milan's most impressive modern development. The shopping district features over 100 stores, restaurants, a multiplex cinema, and a large supermarket. Above it all rise the Tre Torri — three skyscrapers by architects Zaha Hadid, Arata Isozaki, and Daniel Libeskind. The adjacent CityLife Park is beautiful for an evening stroll, with its winding paths and contemporary public art.
🌳 Parks & Nature
San Siro is one of Milan's greenest districts, and the parks here are genuinely worth visiting:
- Parco di Trenno — A huge park with meadows, jogging paths, and a dog area. Locals come here for morning runs and weekend picnics. It's peaceful, spacious, and never crowded.
- Parco delle Cave — Reclaimed quarry lakes surrounded by green trails. Perfect for cycling, birdwatching, or a quiet escape. Bring a book and sit by the water.
- Boscoincittà — Milan's "forest in the city" with 110 hectares of woodland, community vegetable gardens, and nature trails. A remarkable urban green space.
- CityLife Park — Modern landscaped park with art installations, a playground, and great views of the Tre Torri skyline.
⚽ Watch a Match
Of course, the quintessential San Siro experience is attending a live football match. Whether it's AC Milan or Inter playing at home, the atmosphere at the Giuseppe Meazza stadium is electric. The season runs from August to May, with Serie A matches most weekends and Champions League fixtures midweek. Check the events calendar for upcoming matches.
🎵 Attend a Concert
San Siro stadium hosts some of the biggest international artists during the summer concert season (June-July). Recent years have seen performances by Bruce Springsteen, Coldplay, and Taylor Swift. The concert experience at San Siro is unforgettable — and staying nearby means you can walk home after the show while everyone else is fighting for transport.
🍦 Gelato & Coffee Walks
Take a proper Italian passeggiata (evening stroll) through the neighborhood. Stop at a local gelateria for artisanal gelato, grab an espresso at a corner bar, and people-watch from a bench in one of the parks. The simple pleasures of Italian daily life are best experienced in a real neighborhood like this, far from the tourist markup of the Duomo area.
🚲 Cycling
San Siro's flat terrain and dedicated bike paths make it perfect for cycling. The BikeMi bike-sharing system has stations in the area, and you can cycle along the pleasant route connecting the parks of western Milan. A popular route runs from Parco di Trenno through Boscoincittà — about 8 km of car-free riding through green spaces.
