The Legendary Concerts of San Siro: From Bob Marley to Today
A journey through the most iconic concerts in the history of San Siro Stadium, from 1980 to the present day.
San Siro: The Stage of Giants
San Siro Stadium is not just the temple of Italian football — it is Italy's most prestigious stage for live music. From 1980 to the present, the world's greatest artists have chosen San Siro for their Milan dates. Playing at San Siro is a milestone, a symbol of consecration.
Here is the timeline of legendary concerts that have written the history of this stadium.
🎵 The 1980s: The Origins
Bob Marley (1980)
On 27 June 1980, Bob Marley brought reggae to San Siro before 100,000 people (the stadium did not yet have mandatory seating). It was one of the last great concerts by the king of reggae — he would die less than a year later. A historic moment for Milan and for world music.
Bruce Springsteen (1985, 1988)
"The Boss" inaugurated his special relationship with San Siro in 1985 during the Born in the U.S.A. Tour. He returned in 1988 and many times after. Springsteen called San Siro "one of the greatest places to play in the world".
🎵 The 1990s: The Golden Age
U2 (1993, 1997)
U2 brought their futuristic shows to San Siro: the Zoo TV Tour (1993) and the PopMart Tour (1997) with its giant golden arch and the largest LED screen ever built. Bono walked over the crowd. San Siro had never seen anything like it.
Rolling Stones (1990, 1995, 1999)
The Rolling Stones returned to San Siro every decade. The Urban Jungle Tour of 1990, the Voodoo Lounge in 1995 — Mick Jagger at 50+ with more energy than anyone in the audience.
Vasco Rossi: The Beginning of a Legend
Vasco Rossi began playing at San Siro in the 1990s and has never stopped. He holds the all-time attendance record at the stadium: dozens of concerts, millions of spectators. "Albachiara" sung by 75,000 voices is the sound of San Siro.
🎵 2000s–2010s
AC/DC (2001, 2009, 2015)
The hard rock of AC/DC has shaken San Siro multiple times. The Black Ice Tour of 2009 with the famous train on stage — rock in its purest form.
Madonna (2008, 2009, 2012)
The "Queen of Pop" brought her spectacular shows to San Siro several times: the Sticky & Sweet Tour, the MDNA Tour. Costumes, choreography, provocation — Madonna and San Siro are a perfect match.
Ligabue (multiple concerts)
Along with Vasco, Ligabue is the other great Italian rock artist at San Siro. His concerts are mass gatherings for fans from all over Italy.
🎵 The 2020s: The New Era
Coldplay (2023, 2024, 2026)
Coldplay redefined the concert experience at San Siro: synchronised LED wristbands, biodegradable confetti, an unprecedented light show. 4 dates in 2023, all sold out. They return in 2026 for the Music of the Spheres World Tour.
Vasco Rossi (always)
Vasco continues to fill San Siro with the same ease as ever. The 2026 dates are yet another chapter in a love story spanning 30+ years. Read our guide: Vasco Rossi San Siro 2026: Where to Stay.
The Magic of Concerts at San Siro
What makes San Siro special for music? The third tier that wraps around the audience like an amphitheatre. The natural acoustics created by the bowl-shaped structure. The 11 iconic towers illuminated to frame the stage. And above all, the Italian audience — who sing, dance, and live every note with a passion that artists themselves recognise as unique.
