Stadio San Siro is located in Milan's western district, well-connected by public transport and easily accessible from all parts of the city. Here's every option for getting there.

🚇 By Metro (Recommended)

The Metro M5 (purple/Lilla line) is the easiest way to reach San Siro from central Milan. Two stations serve the stadium area:

  • San Siro Stadio — The closest station, right next to the stadium. This is the best option for matches and concerts. On event days, it gets extremely crowded post-event, so allow extra time.
  • San Siro Ippodromo — One stop before San Siro Stadio. Slightly further walk (~10 minutes to the stadium) but much less crowded. This is the smarter choice for post-event exit, and it's the closest station to our apartments.

Journey times to San Siro Stadio:

  • From Duomo area (M1 → transfer at Lotto to M5): ~20 minutes
  • From Milano Centrale (M2 → transfer at Garibaldi to M5): ~25 minutes
  • From Garibaldi (M5 direct): ~15 minutes
  • From CityLife/Lotto (M5): ~5 minutes

Tickets: A single ATM ticket costs €2.20 and is valid for 90 minutes across all public transport. Buy tickets at metro stations (machines or staffed counters), tabacchi (tobacco shops), or via the ATM Milano app. Contactless payment is also accepted directly at turnstiles.

🚌 By Bus

Several bus routes serve the San Siro area:

  • Bus 49 — Runs from Piazza Duomo area (via Cadorna) to San Siro. Useful if you prefer a surface route.
  • Bus 78 — Connects San Siro with other western neighborhoods.
  • Bus 98 — Runs on event days only, providing extra service between the center and the stadium.

On match/concert days: ATM (Milan's transport authority) typically runs extra metro and bus services. Check the ATM Milano website or app for real-time updates on enhanced event day schedules.

🚗 By Car

Driving to San Siro is possible but not recommended on event days. Traffic is heavy, many roads around the stadium are closed, and parking is extremely difficult. However, if you must drive:

  • From the north (A4/A8 motorway): Exit at "Milano - Certosa" and follow signs for "Stadio San Siro."
  • From the south/east (A1/A7): Take the Tangenziale Ovest (western ring road) and exit at "Via Novara" or "San Siro."
  • From Malpensa Airport: Take the A8 motorway toward Milan, then the Tangenziale Ovest. Total drive: ~45-60 minutes depending on traffic.

Parking

Parking near San Siro on event days is a challenge. Options include:

  • Official stadium parking: Limited spaces available for pre-purchase (check event ticket add-ons).
  • Street parking: The surrounding residential streets fill up hours before events. Arrive very early or you'll circle endlessly.
  • Park & Ride: The smartest option. Park at an outer metro station (e.g., Bisceglie on M1 or Lampugnano on M1) and take the metro to the stadium.
  • CityLife parking garage: Underground parking at CityLife Shopping District, then walk or take M5 one stop.

🚕 By Taxi

Taxis are a convenient option, especially for groups:

  • From Milan center: ~€15-25, depending on traffic and exact origin.
  • From Milano Centrale: ~€20-30.
  • From Malpensa Airport: Fixed rate of ~€95-100.
  • From Linate Airport: ~€35-45.

Important: After events, finding a taxi near the stadium is nearly impossible — 75,000 people all want one at the same time. If you need a taxi post-event, pre-book one through the FreeNow or itTaxi app, or walk 10-15 minutes away from the stadium to find available cabs.

Uber operates in Milan but availability near the stadium post-event is also very limited due to surge pricing and high demand.

🚶 Walking from Our Apartments

If you're staying at San Siro Flats, walking to the stadium is by far the best option:

  • Distance: ~800 meters (0.5 miles)
  • Time: ~10 minutes at a comfortable pace
  • Route: Flat, paved residential streets. See our walking guide for detailed directions.

This is the single biggest advantage of staying in the San Siro neighborhood: no transport stress, no crowds, no expensive taxis. Just walk to the event, enjoy it, and walk home.

💡 Match Day Transport Tips

  • Arrive early: Allow at least 60-90 minutes before kickoff if using public transport.
  • Leaving after: The metro is packed for 30-45 minutes after the final whistle. If you can, wait 20-30 minutes in the stadium or grab a drink nearby before heading to the metro.
  • Use San Siro Ippodromo station instead of San Siro Stadio — it's one stop closer to the center and dramatically less crowded.
  • Download the ATM Milano app for real-time metro schedules and service updates.
  • Last metro: Around midnight (12:30 AM Fri-Sat). Night buses (N90/N91) provide overnight service.

Skip the Transport — Walk to the Stadium
